The Best Songs of 2013.. Well most of them.

2013 in a nutshell.
2013 in a nutshell.

The new year is hours away so I wanted to squeeze in one last post before 2013 is out. In no particular order, these are the best songs of 2013. Some you may of heard or, some you may not have but its not too late to give them a listen!

Demi Lovato ‘Heart Attack’

The ‘Since U Been Gone’ of 2013, ‘Heart Attack’ was Demi’s emancipation from all things Disney and she gave us one of the best pop anthems of the past 12 months.  She came, she sang, she conquered.

Lady GaGa ft R.Kelly ‘Do What You Want’

Just when I gave up on this woman and her contrived attempts at avant garde she comes along with this BANGER. I’ve always enjoyed GaGa when she dabbled in more urban sounds because the whole electro pop genre is kinda tired.

Ciara ‘Body Party’

Maaa Baaaaadehh is your paaaarrrtehh! This song had me feeling myself so much this summer! After countless false starts, Ciara finally got it right with this RnB slow jam which was too irresistible to ignore. Definitely one of my songs of the summer.

Robin Thicke ft Pharrell & T.I – ‘Blurred Lines’

I love this man. I loved this song. He finally got the recognition he deserved in 2013. Slay me Robin!!!!

Janelle Monae ft Erykah Badu ‘Q.U.E.E.N’

The most underrated song of 2013. This song had sass, a positive message and a surprise rap by Janelle which had me screaming ‘YASSSSSS!!!!!’ Probably the first proper banger of 2013.

J.Cole ft Miguel ‘Power Trip’

He produced this track entirely by himself. The beat was NUTS. Miguel’s smooth vocals combined with Cole’s gritty telling of life made is song impossible to dislike.

MKS ‘Flatline’

Sugababes 1.0 were re born this year with MKS and gave us probably not the best lead single they could have BUT I for sure welcomed back their impressive vocal runs. The song failed to impact on the charts but I still adored it.

Fifth Harmony ‘Miss Movin’ On’

WHO?! They’re a girl band from XFactor USA who came third last year and can all actually sing. What is not to love? They released their first original song this year in the form of ‘Miss Movin’ On’. The song is what would happen if ‘Heart Attack’ by Demi Lovato and ‘Since U Been Gone’ by Kelly Clarkson met, fell in love and had babies.

Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams ‘Get Lucky’

Just a great song. Nothing more, nothing less.

Disclosure ft Eliza Dolittle ‘You & Me’

They took it back to the sound of the 90s with this one. Its dance more but its not shallow, repetitive or irritating. The song is actually quite poetic! If I had to choose, this would be my all time favourite song of 2013.

Drake ‘Hold on Were Going Home’

The guy can sing! The 80s inspired production of this track along with Majid Jordan’s Weeknd-esq vocal ad-libs shows that Drake is just as good a singer as he is a rapper.

Justin Timberlake ft Jay Z ‘Suit & Tie’

Everyone seems to prefer ‘Mirrors’ more but not me. This is the one song I still love almost a year since his comeback. Its also the best use of a cowbell I have ever heard of in any song.

Willow Smith ‘Summer Fling’

Ignore the fact she is 13 talking about being in love when she doesn’t know shit and just appreciate the song for what it is. A chilled indie track which acted as a great way to end this summer 2013.

Miley Cyrus ‘Wrecking Ball’

After pissing me off with the trash that is ‘We Can’t Stop’, Miley released ‘Wrecking Ball’ and what a song it was. If you ignore the naked girl on the wrecking ball or her licking a hammer you get to hear a pretty great song and vocal performance.

And thats it for 2013!

See ya’ll in 2014!
