It’s New Year’s Eve and I have no plans. It’s not that I didn’t have options, I just couldn’t be bothered. It’s cold, I go back to work in TWO days and I’m 28 years old, which means I need my sleep!
But before I said “Ciao, adios I’m done” to 2017 (hold tight Anne-Marie) I wanted to look back at all the good stuff that happened in my life this year. You might think this whole thing is self-indulgent (partially true, tbh!), but after spending 2017 mostly crippled with anxiety and seeing the world crash and burn before my eyes, I reckon it’s important (and healthy) to focus on the positives so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
Also, thank you to my friend Adam for the photo I’m using as the main image. My nails look so good, don’t you think?
I met the good sis JoJo again and I didn’t freeze like last time. I even managed to say a few words!
I randomly ran into my fave Caucasian scammer in Nando’s of all places. (Christ, my smile is awful!)
I went to the Saatchi Gallery’s selfie exhibit and realised my narcissism is actually art.
I saw some really good plays in 2017. This one, named after one of Carly Rae Jepsen’s best songs, was easily the best.
Read a shit-load of books this year. I wrote about nine of them here.
Had some of the best times this year with my Number 1 Angel. I miss him a lot since he moved away from London, but Amsterdam has been so good for him that I can’t be mad.
Went to the Mighty Hoopla and celebrated being queer and fabulous with some of my faves.
Went to a gig in a church and it was lush.
Was one of the first few people to hear Katy Perry’s ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ direct from a glitter ball in Leicester Sq.
FINALLY saw All Saints live and they were SENSATIONAL.
Had my first PROPER GOOD Pride in London. And yes, I was drunk by 10:30am.
Ended up on Prowler UK’s Instagram page. It remains to be seen if this is a good thing or not. Oh and I don’t know who the hell that guy is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Noisey/VICE let me write about Leona Lewis and Bleeding Love. You can read it here.
They also had me back to write about the 10th anniversary of Britney’s Blackout album. You can read it here.
Started a new job in the summer with a bunch of super nice people. Here we are after we won a game of softball. Me? Good at sports? Since when??!?!
Lived my Kardashain fantasy.
Tried vegan chicken and chips (I know!) and it blew my mind. I’m still a meat eater though.
Upped the diversity quota at UK Black Pride with Aria.
Dyed my hair rose gold to hide the fact I was going through a quarter-life crisis.
Then dyed it blonde to see if they really do have more fun. They don’t. They just have really dry hair.
Wrote something about Nadiya Hussain for her to read it and tell me it made her cry.
Oh and J.K Rowling also retweeted it.
Saw JoJo for a second time in the space of a month because I am that much of a stan and she deserves all my coins.
Met absolute legend and MTV ICON June Sarpong.
Huffington Post let me write a bunch of stuff.
Went to my first-ever gay wedding and saw these two lovely guys tie the knot.
Saw Lorde in Brighton and spent the entire gig drunk and crying…
…in the company of these incredible humans.
Was in the same room as LANA DEL REY.
After cancelling last year, I finally saw my struggle Queen Tinashe!
Opened up about struggling with my mental health, realised I have some pretty amazing friends and worked towards building my confidence up again.
